Let’s dive into what’s happening around town, how to throw a party everyone will remember, and the best gifts for your favorite grads.

Graduation Ceremonies: Mark Your Calendars

Livonia’s schools and colleges are rolling out the red carpet for their graduates. Here’s where and when the big moments are happening:

  • Churchill High School: Commencement is set for Sunday, June 1, 2025, at 12:00 PM at the USA Hockey Arena (14900 Beck Rd, Plymouth). Graduates should arrive by 11:00 AM. No tickets required for guests, but leave the bags at home; the arena has a strict no-bag policy.

  • Stevenson High School: Celebrate on Friday, May 23, 2025, at 5:00 PM. The ceremony will also be at the USA Hockey Arena. Check the school website for updates.

  • Redford Union High School: Graduation is Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at 7:00 PM at the USA Hockey Arena. Each graduate gets two free tickets; extras are $8 each and must be purchased in advance from the main office.

  • Madonna University: Four ceremonies, one for each college, will be held at the Alliance Catholic Credit Union Arena on campus (14680 Newburgh Rd). The Graduation Mass is Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at 6:00 PM at the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Chapel.

  • Schoolcraft College: The 59th annual commencement ceremony takes place at 1:00 PM on Saturday, May 4, 2025, at the TrinityElite Sports Center (18600 Haggerty Rd). Each graduate can bring up to four guests.

Don’t forget to double check arrival times, parking info, and ticket policies for each event. Some venues, like the USA Hockey Arena, have specific rules about what you can bring inside.

Party Like a Graduate: Fun Ideas for Livonia Gatherings

A diploma in hand calls for a celebration. Whether you’re hosting a backyard bash or a cozy dinner, Livonia offers plenty of ways to make your grad feel special.

Decorations: Go big with balloon arches, tassel garlands, and photo banners. Stick to school colors for a personal touch. Local party stores in Livonia can help with custom banners and balloon kits.

Food Stations: Set up a popcorn bar with sweet and savory toppings, or serve crowd-pleasers like deviled eggs and sandwich pinwheels. For a sweet treat, create a donut wall or bake cupcakes with graduation cap toppers.

Games and Entertainment: Lawn games like cornhole or giant Jenga get everyone involved. Set up a photo booth with props. Think funny glasses, graduation hats, and signs with “Class of 2025” slogans.

Advice Table: Place a jar and some pens on a table for guests to write advice or well wishes. Your grad will love reading these notes after the party.

Theme it Up: For younger grads, try a Snoopy or favorite movie theme. For older students, nautical or modern table settings add a grown-up flair.

Local Venues: If you’d rather not host at home, check out Livonia’s event spaces. Laurel Manor Banquet Center (39000 Schoolcraft Rd) is a popular spot for proms and parties. Many local restaurants also offer private dining rooms for family celebrations.

Graduation Gift Ideas: Thoughtful, Useful, and Fun

Looking for the perfect gift? Here are some top picks for Livonia’s 2025 grads:

  • Tech Essentials: Apple AirPods Pro, Bluetooth record players, or a Tile Mate Bluetooth tracker help grads stay connected and organized.

  • Travel Gear: A sturdy duffle bag or luggage with a USB port is great for grads heading off to college or adventures.

  • Personal Touches: Custom jewelry, like a name bracelet with a graduation date, or a state-themed money/card holder, adds sentimental value.

  • Home and Kitchen: French press coffee makers, mixing bowls with graters, or a fondue set are perfect for grads setting up their first apartment.

  • Experience Gifts: Subscriptions to streaming services, classes, or local experiences (think escape rooms or cooking lessons in Livonia) make memories last.

  • Classic Choices: Cash, gift cards, or a bouquet of flowers never go out of style. For a creative twist, build a money wreath or a card box made from a real license plate.

Pro tip: Many local shops in Livonia offer engraving or personalization. Add your grad’s name, school, or graduation year for an extra-special touch.
